Gender pay gap rules in detail

    In December 2017 a law prohibiting pay discrimination between men and women came into force, together with a regulation requiring employers to determine and keep records of categories, functions, and remuneration to promote the principle of equal pay for equal work. (Other complementary measures were also published subsequently.)

    A failure to comply with any of the obligations established by these regulations will be considered a very serious infringement by the labour authority. The employer will be sanctioned with a fine, the amount of which depends on the number of workers affected. The Peruvian National Labour Inspection Superintendency (Sunafil) started inspections for compliance with the equal pay rules in July 2019. These inspections were extended to micro-enterprises in December 2019.
