National minimum wage in detail

In Japan, minimum wages for each prefecture are set via the Minimum Wage Law by each prefecture. These vary by prefecture from JPY 737 (EUR 5.86) to JPY 958 (EUR 7.62) per hour. The average minimum wage across the prefectures is JPY 848 (EUR 6.75) per hour. The Minimum Wage Law also forms the basis for minimum wages for each industry that it covers and they vary by industry from JPY 678 (EUR 5.39) to JPY 957 (EUR 7.67) per hour. If the minimum wage for the industry is lower than the minimum wage for the prefecture, the prefecture rate will apply. The rates are reviewed annually.
